Day 1: Arrive in Luang Prabang

Upon arrival in Luang Prabang, you will be met by your English speaking local guide and transferred to your hotel.

The crown jewel of Laos and former Lanexang, Luang Prabang, is perhaps the best-preserved traditional city in South East Asia. Magical and charming, it has preserved its long-standing reputation as a stronghold of Lao culture with its splendid natural scenery and sense of timelessness. In 1995, UNESCO voted Luang Prabang as a World Heritage City.

Light lunch at the hotel. After lunch, transfer to the Old Town. Walking tour through the old colonial part of Luang Prabang. Visit the central night market before you can enjoy your dinner along the Nam Khan River of the terrace of the Burasari Hotel Restaurant. Return to hotel.

Day 2: Luang Prabang

06:00 AM: Those who do not mind getting up very early in the morning, will have an excellent opportunity to observe hundreds of saffron-clad monks on their alms round, in the custom known as tak baat. Watching or taking part in this morning tradition is a heart-warming and culturally telling experience. Each temple takes a different route around town, making sure that there is an even flow and pace as the monks receive their alms (food donations such as sticky rice, fruits, and vegetables). At the end of the process the monks return to their temples, where they have their breakfast in silence.

Return to the hotel for breakfast. After breakfast, visit the National Museum (former King’s Palace) displaying a collection of personal artifacts of the Royal Family: photos, musical equipment and gifts received from foreign countries.

Explore the rich culture of Luang Prabang: Visit beautiful temples: Vat Xieng Thong, Vat Sene and Vat Mai.

Lunch at L’Elephant Restaurant in the old town. Continue with visiting the Ock Pop Tok Weaving Center outside the old town to learn more about the Lao weaving. Ock Pop Tok, means “East meets West”, is a Laos based social enterprise working primarily in the field of textiles, handicrafts and design. This beautiful Living Crafts Centre overlooking the Mekong serves as a resource center for learning about textiles, crafts and culture.

Return to hotel for refreshment until transfer for Dinner at The House Restaurant.

Day 3: Luang Prabang

After breakfast at hotel, visit Living Land for a half day in the rice paddy, filled with activities and learning, a great deal of personal hands on experience and tasting... Rice is the ultimate foundation of everyday life in Asia and yet it is still a mystery for many visitors. Learn how to select the seeds, plant, plough a paddy with a water buffalo and every other step until the last one...eating various rice products in Laos!

Your next stop Kuang Si Waterfall, the biggest waterfall in the Luang Prabang area with three tiers leading to a 50-meter drop into spectacular azure colored pools, before flowing downstream. The pools, with cascades of up to five meters, offer great swimming opportunities and are very popular with both, tourists and locals. A simple, but finger licking, local lunch will be served by the waterfalls. Visit also the rescued bears of the “Bear Lao” project, on your walk along the pools up to the waterfall. Then continue with a visit to a recently opened Butterfly Park, where you can see a large variety of colorful butterflies and orchids in a nice natural set-up, before returning to Luang Prabang.

Continue to visit the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Center, a small private museum about minority groups where you can learn about ethnic cultures and traditional arts. The exhibits contain text, photographs and objects from villages throughout the north of Laos. Return to the hotel to refresh.
